Adam Smith Lecture Series: Brendan McCord

    ABOUT THE SPEAKER

The Adam Smith Lecture Series sits at the heart of the Panmure House programme of activities. These exclusive events bring world-leading economic thinkers, practitioners, and Nobel Laureates back to the birthplace of modern economics, the house in which Adam Smith completed the final edition of The Wealth of Nations.

Brendan McCord is the Founder and Chair of the Cosmos Institute, entrepreneur and a key thinker at the intersection of AI and philosophy.

Operating in both the public and private sector, Brendan was the founding CEO of two AI startups that were acquired for $400 million, principal founder of the first applied AI organisation for the US Department of Defence and author of its first AI strategy.

Driven by a vision to achieve a society where technology enhances, human autonomy, the Cosmos Institute was borne and focuses on training philosopher-builders: technologists who fuse deep enquiry with technical skills to ensure AI serves for human good.

Brendan will discuss how ancient philosophical wisdom can guide the use of artificial intelligence to enhance human flourishing rather than diminish it.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions immediately post-talk in the Lecture Room, followed by a canapé and drinks reception in the Interpretation Suite.

You can register for a spot at the lecture here. The public spaces are very limited so reserve yours as early as possible and if you are unable to join us please cancel your ticket to allow someone else to join us.

You can sign up to our newsletter to stay informed of all our forthcoming events.

Every donation is used to deliver our vision - a world in which business and governments serve the long-term common good; where policies and public discourse are inclusive, well-reasoned and founded on research. You can support us through our Donation Page.
