Join Heriot-Watt University for the James Watt Lecture with Professor Morgan Kelly on the mechanics of the Industrial Revolution.
ABOUT THE event
This year’s James Watt Lecture is delivered by Professor Morgan Kelly (UCD), presenting new research on the mechanics of the Industrial Revolution drawn from work for a forthcoming book co-authored with Joel Mokyr and Cormac Ó Gráda.
The lecture revisits the world of Watt to explore how invention, knowledge, and economic change interacted — and why this history still matters for understanding innovation today.
The lecture takes place in person and promises an evening of insight and discussion. A drinks reception will take place following the lecture and Q&A.
This event is organised by Heriot-Watt University and run in conjunction with the Consulate General of Ireland in Edinburgh.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Professor Kelly is Professor of Economics at University College Dublin. With a BA from Trinity College Dublin, and a PhD from Yale University. Formally Assistant Professor at Cornell between 1990-1995, Kelly's research is on economic history, with some earlier work on the Irish economic crisis.
