About the Author
Eoin McLaughlin is Professor of Economics at Heriot-Watt University and a Panmure House Fellow. He is an economic historian whose research explores long-run economic development, sustainability, and how societies understand and measure economic progress. His work examines the relationship between economic growth, natural resources, institutions, and human wellbeing, with a particular focus on Britain and Ireland. Professor McLaughlin's research also engages with the legacy of Adam Smith and the enduring question at the heart of The Wealth of Nations: what makes nations prosperous?
His new book, The Inclusive Wealth of Nations: Prosperity, Sustainability, and the Future of Economic Progress, revisits that question for the twenty-first century, asking how we can understand whether nations are genuinely becoming more prosperous and sustainable over time.
