Professor Adam Dixon, Adam Smith Chair in Sustainable Capitalism of the School of Social Sciences and Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University introduces the fourth speaker of the Lights of Caledonia series, Dr Glory M. Liu. Author of Adam Smith’s America: How a Scottish Philosopher Became an Icon of American Capitalism. A current Lecturer in the Committee on Degree in Social Studies at Harvard will take up the position of Assistant Director for the Center for Economy and Society and Assistant Research Professor at the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University in July 2023. Dr Liu discusses the unlikely story of how Americans canonise Smith as the Patron Saint of the free market and why we should consider Adam Smith and his works today. The session is followed by a stimulating chaired Q+A session to a live audience in the Lecture Room of Panmure House.
